The Ambassador of the Dominican Republic, H.E. Flavio D. Espinal, together with other Latin American Ambassadors, met in Congress with the Senate Democratic Leadership to discuss several items on the hemispheric agenda. Among these: democracy, security, migration, commerce, development cooperation and general U.S.-Latin American relations.
Ambassador Espinal addressed the process of democratic consolidation in the Dominican Republic, economic recovery under President Leonel Fernandez’s administration, and the importance of continued United States and international community cooperation with Haiti during its process of stabilization and development, as well as the security challenges it poses.
The meeting was attended by Senate Majority leader Harry Reid (NV), Ken Salazar (CO), Robert Menendez (NJ), Christopher Dodd (CT) and Ted Nelson (FL).
