Tropical Storm Noel Relief Fund
On October 29, 2007, and the days that followed, Tropical Storm Noel hit the Dominican Republic and caused what is considered to be some of the worst damages, if not the worst damages, as a result of a natural disaster in our country's history. To date, 84 people have lost their lives, 48 are still missing and over 65,000 have been displaced from their homes. The physical damages have been devastating: 16,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed; 100 communities are isolated; 50 roads and bridges have collapsed, been obstructed or deemed impassible; and 392,102 acres of cropland have been flooded, including plantain and rice fields, among others.
The reconstruction of the Dominican Republic will be an immense task and require a sustained effort over an extended period of time. The Dominican government is deploying all the resources available to assist the affected people and communities, confident that the Dominican Republic will rise to the occasion and move forward in the face of this adversity.
We are grateful for the assistance the Dominican Republic is receiving from governments, institutions and people from different parts of the world. We ask for your support.
