If a person needs to do any type of business or personal transaction in the Dominican Republic and will not be physically present in the country, that person will need to empower someone of his trust or a lawyer in the Dominican Republic.
This empowerment can be done by going to the nearest Dominican Consulate with and Picture ID and the ID Number of the empowered person in the Dominican Republic. If the empowered person does not live in the Dominican Republic, the passport of the empowered person is also required.
If the empowerment is needed for a property sale, the title of the property is required.
You can renew your Dominican passport at your nearest Dominican Consulate. In order to do this you will need to present four 2x2 pictures and your old passport.

This procedure takes from 20 minutes to 1 hour.
If you are getting your passport for the first time instead of the old passport you will need to present your birth certificate legalized by the Central Electoral Board (Junta Central Electoral) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic.
The costs are the same as for the renewal plus an additional fee of US$50.00 in order to pay for the FEDEX delivery.
It takes approximately 3 months to get the passport.
If you have lost your passport you will also need to do a "sworn declaration of lost" at the Consulate.

You can certify your vehicle's title at your nearest Dominican Consulate
You will need to present the original title of your vehicle in order to do this certification.
Even though the consulates do not speed up or hold up any removal process, prisoners and their relatives are welcome to call for counseling and information about their deportation process and file situation.
The Consulate also issues the travel documents in order for prisoners to be deported after their file are completed.
